People will be able to recycle on the go with the introduction of new bins across the borough.
The new outdoor split recycling bins will enable people to recycle drink cans and plastic bottles when out and about.
Five will be installed in in each of the borough’s five main towns – Brierley Hill, Dudley, Halesowen, Sedgley and Stourbridge, with a further two in each of the 24 ward areas.
The location of bins in wards will be decided following consultation with ward councillors, but where possible will be set next to existing litterbins.
They are due to be installed in early February, next year.
Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for environmental services, said:
We’re always looking for new ways to help people recycle and I’m sure these will be a popular addition to our town centres and streets.
Keeping the borough clean is our top priority. Promoting recycling and encouraging residents providing facilities to them in their ward and towns will achieve this.
Residents are already doing a great job recycling at home but these new bins will mean they can recycle their litter when out and about across our borough.
This will not only benefit the environment, with less waste going to landfill, but help keep our towns and streets clean and litter-free”.
Usage of the recycling bins will be monitored to determine how often they will be emptied and to check contamination levels.
