People will soon be able to recycle on the go with the introduction of new bins across the borough.
The new outdoor split recycling bins will enable people to recycle drink cans, plastic bottles, paper and cardboard when out and about.
Five will be installed in each of the borough’s five main towns – Brierley Hill, Dudley, Halesowen, Sedgley and Stourbridge, with a further two in each of the 24 ward areas.
One will also be installed outside each of the three leisure centres – Dudley, Halesowen and the Crystal Leisure Centre in Stourbridge – as well as at the Dell Stadium.
The location of bins in wards will be decided following consultation with ward councillors, but where possible will be set next to existing litterbins.
They are due to be installed in the coming weeks.
Councillor John Martin, Cabinet Member for Highways and Environment, said:
We’re always looking for new ways to help people recycle and I’m sure these will be a popular addition to our town centres and streets.
Keeping the borough clean is our top priority. Promoting recycling and encouraging residents by providing facilities to them in their wards and towns will achieve this.
Residents are already doing a great job recycling at home but these new bins will mean they can recycle their litter when out and about across our borough.
This will not only benefit the environment, but help keep our towns and streets clean and litter-free.”
Usage of the recycling bins will be monitored to determine how often they will be emptied and to check contamination levels.
