There’s stacks to do with the kids this October half term

From family fun days at museums, to crafts at nature reserves and free swimming to Halloween events there’s something for all ages.

The Red House Glass Cone has a series of glass fusing sessions on 29 and 30 October and a Trick and Treat family event and young people’s craft market on Thursday 31 October from 10.30 am to 7 pm.

Over at Dudley Museum at The Archives, there’s a family Creepy Crawlies day on Friday 1 November from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm featuring crafts and activities with a spooky theme. Admission is free but there’s a £3.50 charge for craft activities.

Buckpool and Fen’s Pool Nature Reserves are running two nature craft sessions this half term. On Tuesday 29 October wardens will be making spooky decorative Chinese lanterns which are both ornamental and eco-friendly. On Wednesday 30 October youngsters can make pine cone bird feeders to help garden birds this winter. They’ll also have the chance to make a cute pine cone critter to take home. Both sessions run from 1 pm to 3 pm. Sessions are free but must be booked in advance on 01384 812780.

Himley Hall is hosting a Scavenger Hunt from Saturday 26 to Thursday 31 October. Help Wendy Witch, stop the Dragons of Dudley from destroying the local area by finding the ingredients for her magic potion! Scavenger hunt sheets and certificates are available from the Coffee Lounge in Himley Hall and cost 50p.

Get bouncing at the Crystal Leisure Centre with the Big Bounce on Wednesday 30 October with sessions at 10am, 11.45am, 1.30pm and 3.15pm, a giant arena filled with inflatable wipeout games. Sessions cost £7 for children and £1 for adults plis booking fee, adults must supervise but can’t go on the equipment. Book online at

Over at Halesowen Leisure Centre there are inflatable aqua run pool sessions on Tuesday 29 and Thursday 31 October, 1.30 pm to 3 pm, suitable for over eight years. Sessions cost £4.40 for adults and £2.90 for under 16s. A swimming test is required before participation (1.15 pm - 1.30 pm), children must be a minimum of 1.2 metres.
