Town regeneration to include health

Posted on:

Dudley Council has confirmed it is working with health partners to look at new ways of incorporating health facilities into Dudley town centre’s exciting regeneration programme.

The local authority is embarking on the £1 billion pound regeneration programme, which is set to transform the town centre over the next decade.

Exciting plans for the town include the metro and new bus station, with work already underway, as well as a new leisure centre for the town centre and the £82m Portersfield development featuring retail, leisure and housing.

The leader has also pledged to work with the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to ensure access to health care is also maximised.

Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said:

Dudley town centre is being revolutionised by an exciting programme of regeneration and we are working with a broad spectrum of partners to make our vision for Dudley a reality.
As well as offering improved transport, retail, housing and leisure for Dudley, we are also working closely with partners in health to see how we can improve access to facilities. This includes us looking to provide a brand new health centre in the town centre, working in collaboration with the CCG.

Neill Bucktin, Dudley Managing Director for the Black Country and West Birmingham CCGs said:

These are exciting developments. The CCG is keen to be involved, both in terms of looking at potential locations for future health provision but also in shaping the way in which these regeneration projects can have an impact on the economic and social development of Dudley, as we know that this can have a positive effect on preventing ill health.
