Traffic safety scheme near three schools

Posted on:

School children in Quarry Bank have been given a boost after signs were installed warning drivers to slow down.

The 20mph warning signs were added near to Thorns Primary, Old Park School and Thorns Academy.

Five flashing warning signs have been installed in Thorns Road, Stockwell Avenue and Acres Road.

It is part of the council’s safer routes to school scheme to encourage pupils and families to walk to school.

Councillor Shaz Saleem, cabinet member for highways and public realm, said:

I’m delighted we have been able to install these signs which should have a big impact on traffic speeds. Making children and families feel safe while walking to school is really important and I hope people will continue to find alternative ways to get to and from school as much as possible.
