VE Day party plans
Patriotic residents planning street parties this VE Day are advised to get their road closure applications in soon.
It’s the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day on 8 May. To celebrate this the government has moved the spring bank holiday to Friday 8 May, making a long weekend for people to celebrate.
Details of national events can be found at www.veday75.org
It’s hoped that lots of people will enter into the spirit of the day and celebrate with their families, friends, neighbours and wider communities.
Residents are welcome to mark the occasion by hosting street parties, although any outdoor party in the borough which requires a road closure needs to submit an application.
The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor David Stanley said:
This VE Day is an especially important date to mark, as it will be the 75th anniversary of peace in Europe.
We are keen to encourage people to celebrate and hope that people will get their applications for any road closures submitted in good time. Just let us know by completing an event application form available on the council website. And in the spirit of the day, we’re even waiving the standard fee.
Dudley Council has its own plans to mark the day and hope that people will join in this commemoration, alongside their own celebrations.
The council is waiving the standard fee for any approved applications made for VE Day street parties. Submitting an application is easy and it can be done online on the council website under the things to do section.
