Volunteers clean up borough park

Posted on:

Volunteers helped clear more than 50 bags of rubbish from a borough park in an event organised as part of a regional campaign.

A team of 43 people attended the ‘West Midlands Great Clean Up’ event at Priory Park, Priory Ruins and Coronation Gardens last weekend (June 25) as part of a Keep Britain Tidy campaign to clean up the region ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

58 bags of rubbish were collected during the course of the day.

Councillor Shaz Saleem, cabinet member for highways and public realm, said:

Thanks for all the volunteers who gave up their time at the weekend to support the litter pick. Their hard work helped clear the area of discarded rubbish, but I must admit I am quite disappointed that there was so much to collect.
It is all of our responsibility to keep our borough clean and tidy and create pride in the areas we live so I would urge people to use bins provided or take their rubbish home with them.
We are weeks away from being part of a global event, let’s all make every effort to keep out streets and parks tidy and be part of creating a positive lasting impression of the region.
