Whit week fun at museums

There’s lots to do at the Red House Glass Cone and Dudley Museum at the Archives this Whit week.

There’s a chance to make something in glass with bookable sessions throughout the week at the Red House Glass Cone. These include glass fusion: dragonfly and glass fusion: sheep on Tuesday 28 and Thursday 30 May respectively. Sessions run at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1pm and 2pm.  Another glass fusion session: beach scene runs on Saturday 1 June, with sessions at 2 and 3pm. All cost £6 per child and must be booked in advance. There are free family trails available every day, suitable for the over 8s. There are free family duck trails suitable for everyone. The site also hosts free glass blowing demonstrations every weekend in the hot glass studio. Visitors can watch as glass artists transform a molten piece of glass into a glass, vase, platter or object.

Demonstrations take place every weekend from 1.30-3.30pm. During school holidays they run from noon-3.30pm at weekends and 11am-2.30pm during the week.

Over at Dudley Museum at the Archives there are a host of activities and events.

There’s a free family trail from Saturday 26 May – Saturday 2 June from 10am – 3pm around the museum (closed Sundays).

The monthly Diddy Dinos pops up on Friday 24 May from 10am – noon, suitable for pre-schoolers.  This relaxed story, sensory play and craft sessions is a chance to sit down over a cuppa, chat with other carers and enjoy quality time together. This needs to be booked in advance and costs £5 per child. Call 01384 812381 or 01384 815571 to book.

There’s a stones and bones family fun day on Wednesday 29 May with a geology and pre-history theme. Activities run 10.30 – 2.30 and cost £3.50. Youngsters can follow a trail and take part in a range of crafts. Dressing up is welcome.
