Revenues and Benefits Essential Maintenance
Due to essential maintenance please note we are not able to respond to council tax or business rates enquiries until Monday 25th February. We apologise for any inconvenience.
The Blue Badge Scheme is a national scheme allowing people who have severe mobility problems, or who are registered blind, to park near to places that they would not otherwise be able to access.
This may include access to specific spaces in car parks and being allowed to park free of charge in some pay and display car parks or single or double yellow lines for up to three hours as long as it is safe to do so and does not cause an obstruction. It is important to check the information displayed in each car park to know if charges apply.
A blue badge costs £10 and is valid for a maximum of 3 years.
We are only able to issue Blue Badges to permanent residents of the borough. If you live in a different borough then please contact your local council for information about how to apply for a Blue Badge. Badges are issued in accordance with the guidelines and regulations provided by the Department for Transport (DfT).
Due to the current high demand for Blue Badges, applications may take up to 12 weeks to be processed. Work is being done to reduce this waiting time.
The Department for Transport have announced that following a consultation, eligibility for a Blue Badge will be extended to people with hidden disabilities, including autism and mental health conditions. The details of the new criteria and an implementation date have not been announced by the Department for Transport yet.
It is expected that the new criteria will come into force later this year.
Until this time blue badges are not able to be issued under this new criteria.
We will publicise the changes when we have been provided the details.

Please be aware that there are a number of websites that offer a blue badge application service for a fee. These sites are charging up to £50 to submit an application on your behalf.
Please be advised:
The misuse of a Blue Badge and obtaining a Blue Badge by fraudulent means are very serious offence criminal offences.
