Dudley Council and Dudley Community Partnership are working together to reduce their impact upon climate change. A new Climate Change Task and Finish Group has been set up with the aim of developing and delivering a plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from across the borough and encourage alternative to car travel to schools. The plan include many measures to raise awareness of climate change such as Carbon Free TV, assessing Dudley’s vulnerability to the impacts of climate change and building on existing initiatives such as improving energy efficiency within the housing sector.
The Council also manages its own operations through the Corporate Sustainability Group. This is an internally focused group set up to provide a corporate approach to addressing and delivering sustainable development. The group is chaired by the Director of the Urban Environment and has officers from all Directorates of the Council.
The Council’s Sustainability Management Plan is a co-ordinated strategic framework for the Council with which to deliver and monitor internal progress towards meeting sustainable development aims. The overarching aims of the plan are to raise awareness and promote sustainable development, embed sustainable development into the Council’s policies, services and activities, and develop a method to monitor progress. Members of the Corporate Sustainability Group are responsible for delivering the Sustainability Action Plan.
