It is important that adults, children and young people are aware of the risks of using drugs, alcohol, solvents and smoking.
Most children will be aware of alcohol and drugs as early as primary school. At this age children are more responsive to being told about the risks of alcohol and drug use, so discussing and providing accurate information is important for prevention. It will of course not guarantee non-use but increases the chance of young people making an informed choice.
Drug and/or alcohol misuse by adults in a household can seriously affect the care and wellbeing of children.
