If you feel that you need extra help with living at home you could look at the sections on equipment and Dudley Telecare Service to see if this is the sort of support you need.

If you feel that you need help with personal care such as washing and dressing you will need to contact the access to adult care services team.

Vulnerable people who perhaps do not need 'personal care' but could use help to learn independent living skills such as how to manage budgets, eat well and stay healthy can contact any of the relevant supporting people service providers or contact the Supporting People Team on 01384 814647.

Shared Lives

In Shared Lives a Shared Lives foster carer shares their home and family with an adult who needs care or support to help them to live well. Carers can offer long term support, respite or short term care , or purely daytime support. There are lots of options to suit people's own families and circumstances.

People are increasingly choosing Shared Lives over other forms of care because it is a unique way to live well and live independently, but not alone. The goal is always an ordinary family life, where everyone gets to contribute and is an active member of the family.

Residential and Nursing Care Homes

Enabling community support service

The enabling community support service offers older people, aged 60 and above, a range of practical help, advice and support in the home to help them remain independent, happy and healthy at home.

Supported (or Sheltered) Housing

If you feel that you need more help than that provided by the teams described above, this may be an option. There are a number of schemes across the borough offering a level of support appropriate to a person’s needs which enable you to maintain your independence in a supported setting. Sheltered Housing is usually available for people aged 60+ but can, in some circumstances be extended to younger people with disabilities.

Extra Care Housing

Dudley Council is working with Midland Heart to develop two Extra Care Housing Schemes in the Borough. The schemes are due to be completed in 2011.
