The Blue Badge Scheme allows people who have severe mobility problems to park near to places such as shops or public buildings that they would not otherwise be able to access.

This may include access to specific spaces in car parks or being allowed to park on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours as long as it is safe to do so and does not cause an obstruction.

A Blue Badge holder may be allowed to park free of charge in some pay and display car parks. It is important to check the information displayed in each car park to know if charges apply.

How much does a Blue Badge cost?

A Blue Badge costs £10 and is valid for a maximum of 3 years.

Dudley MBC are only able to issue Blue Badges to permanent residents of the Borough. If you live in a different borough then please contact your local council for information about how to apply for a Blue Badge.  Badges are issued in accordance with the guidelines and regulations provided by the Department for Transport (DfT).

Due to the current high demand for blue badges, applications may take up to 12 weeks to be processed. Work is being done to reduce this waiting time.

Check your eligibility.

New Blue Badge Criteria Announced

The Department for Transport have announced that following a consultation, eligibility for a blue badge will be extended to people with hidden disabilities, including autism and mental health conditions.

The details of the new criteria and an implementation date have not been announced by the Department for Transport yet.

It is expected that the new criteria will come into force early in 2019.

Until this time blue badges are not able to be issued under this new criteria.

Dudley MBC will publicise the changes when we have been provided the details.
