My story - Miss E ‘Living independently, with regular support’

What was the issue?

Miss E is 65 years old and lives alone in council accommodation. She has no family support, has some health problems and is also registered blind.

Miss E was still living independently but needed some regular support in order to continue to live successfully on her own.

How did we help?

We have provided a regular ‘floating support’ service to Miss E. Here a support worker visits Miss E in her home three times a week and provides an agreed upon support package. Floating support helps with things such as: filling in forms, helping with home security, helping with daily living skills, assisting with transport, going along to appointments with Miss E and offering general help and guidance where needed.

Miss E has also been provided with a pendant alarm from Dudley telecare service. This is linked to our telecare service’s 24 hour monitoring centre which can be alerted at any time of day or night of an emergency. Miss E simply presses her alarm (which she wears around her neck) in an emergency and help can immediately be summoned. Miss E is therefore reassured that she is able to request help whenever she needs it.

What difference did this make?

Miss E feels much less alone. She looks forward to her regular support visits, which are tailored to her own needs, and genuinely feels cared about. She now feels safe and reassured that there is always someone available to help her out. She is also happy that she is able to continue living an independent life, in the community.
