Online sessions for young people with SEND and support available at Post16

Dudley SENDIASS is hosting an online event for Young People with the aim of supporting them to make the transition into Post-16 settings/ training and adulthood.

The service will be hosting a series of online sessions, for Young People with SEND to join in from their devices, through MS Teams.

The sessions will be held over three weeks and will cover specific areas around how Young People with SEND can be supported in their transition into adulthood. A wide range of training and education providers, services and agencies who work with Young People will come together to showcase and advise on how they can support and engage Young People with SEND, as well as support participation in decisions relating to their Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Wednesday 16th June 2021 – Post 16 Educational Settings

10.00am - 11.00am - Staff from mainstream-colleges will be available to advise on how they can support you in the setting and meet your educational needs and/or disabilities, with or without an EHCP.
11.30am – 12.30pm - This session will have staff from specialist-Post-16 settings available to advise on how they will support you through your EHCP and what they have to offer.

Wednesday 23rd June 2021 – Employment and Post-16 Training Opportunities

10.00am - 11.00am - Local Post-16 training providers will tell you about the opportunities that are available within the area and how they will support you throughout your training, with or without an EHCP.
11.30am – 12.30pm - Agencies will come together to offer you support and guidance when considering how you can access support in employment and be job ready.

Wednesday 30th June 2021 – Making that transition into adulthood

10.00am - 11.00am – Community Inclusion - Agencies and services that will support you in gaining the skill set and confidence to get involved locally.
11.30am – 12.30pm – Independent Living - Agencies who may be able to support you to develop the skills needed to live independently.
1.00pm - 2.00pm - Health - Agencies within the Mental health and physical healthcare sector who can work with Young People with SEND to ensure your holistic needs are supported.

Dudley SENDIASS are running on-line Q&A sessions designed to give you an opportunity to ask questions and find out about the support you could have linked to your Post-16 hopes and aspirations.

All sessions are 4pm – 5pm

Thursday 10th and Tuesday 22nd June

Thursday 8th and Tuesday 13th July

The Online Young Persons Support sessions will look at specific areas and will provide legally based information and advice:

SEND support in settings
  • Explaining what support a school/college or training provider can offer
  • Support in requesting an education health care assessment
What is an EHCP?
  • What is an Education, Health and Care plan (EHC plan)
  • How it can help you in your setting or training provider
  • Timeline of the EHCP process

Some young people access our service with their parents; if you want your parents or other family members to join the sessions with you, they are very welcome.

Others may want to contact the service separately from their parents. You can do this and will receive confidential information and support that will allow you to participate in decisions.
