Education matters to all children and young people as it is crucial to their well-being and improves their life chances. Dudley Council has corporate parenting responsibility for children looked after (CLA) and, like all parents, valuing and supporting children's education is one of the most important contributions the Council can make to their lives. The Virtual School has high aspirations for looked after children to help them maximise their access to education and have the chance to achieve their full potential.
The Virtual School (VS) is made up of everyone who is involved in supporting and providing education for Dudley's looked after children.
The Virtual School Head Teacher manages a multidisciplinary team of staff who have established strong links with the many individuals, schools and agencies that work with CLA.
The service is managed by the People Directorate.
The Virtual School provides support to children who are looked after by Dudley MBC.
The Virtual School does not replace the school or educational provision of a looked after child - it is an additional resource which exists to support and challenge all those involved in the education of looked after children.
The Virtual School is involved in or promotes various initiatives to support the educational achievement of looked after children. Find out more on our Projects page.
