We have a duty to tackle dangerous parking. The Traffic Management Act 2004 allows councils to enforce parking contraventions by CCTV cameras in problem areas.

How does the CCTV camera enforcement work?
The CCTV enforcement vehicle is driven by trained operatives. The vehicle is clearly marked with CCTV enforcement and Council logos.
The car is equipped with an intelligent enforcement system that uses GPS to recognise where restrictions begin and end as the vehicle is driven though a restriction zone.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will record vehicles in a restricted zone and create a segment of video which can be viewed to determine if a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN, commonly known as a parking fine) will be issued.
The footage is reviewed by an independent officer who determines if a parking contravention has occurred.
If a parking contravention has occurred, a PCN is sent to the address of the registered keeper/owner/hirer of the vehicle. This will be sent by post, within 28 days of the date of the alleged parking contravention. This will be accompanied by photographic evidence of the parking contravention.
