Dudley Council the historic capital of the Black Country
Dudley Skyline

Within a 15 minute walk of Brierley Hill town centre there are 21 schools, which together support more than 8000 students.

There are also Dudley and Stourbridge college campuses in the area.

The active travel project aims to work with these education facilities to encourage parents and students of all ages to walk and cycle to school or college more.

The project will provide training and information and give them the opportunity to find out more about how this will impact on carbon omissions and congestion.

Active travel partnerships developed with each school and college will involve a range of initiatives including:

  • Setting up a bespoke active travel plan

  • Pedestrian and bikeability training for students

  • Introducing/developing walk once a week (WoW) scheme
  • Identifying park and stride opportunities

  • Help to set up walking bus schemes

  • Transition resource for year six and seven students

  • School parking awareness raising exercises

  • Cycle training for staff and post 16 students

  • Eco driver training for staff and post 16 students

  • Parent focus groups to promote walking groups

  • Staff cycle salary sacrifice scheme
