You are challenged to send in a video of you singing or playing along to Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody. This page will tell you what to do.

We are inviting everyone to take part in the finale. We don't care how old you are or where you live and it would be great to have extended families, friends and former students making music with us.

If you are going to sing, start by watching our film on YouTube and get used to singing along. When you are ready, watch 'recording your video' and then film yourself. When you are done send your film to and make sure we have it by 11th December.

If you are going to play, simply download the music from this page, have a practice with the video and then film yourself.  The parts are fairly straight forward and should be manageable for anyone who is grade 4/5 upwards. If it's too hard don't worry, have a sing instead!

When you are ready, email your part to and make sure we have it by December 11th.  If you are not sure what to do please scroll down to the bottom of the page for some help.

Tips to help you record

Everything you need to know is on recording your video, but here is a short guide:

  • Think about what to wear and choose the best place to film yourself- make it Christmasy and be creative!
  • If you do not want to be identified on the film simply aim the phone at something other than you and we will just use the sound
  • You need to listen to the backing track through headphones and be videoed on a different device at the same time
  • You can have as many goes as you want, but only send one film
  • Don’t worry if you can’t get it 100% correct, we will edit and use your best bits
  • Make sure you phone is ‘sideways’ and that you are in the middle of the screen.
  • Prop up the phone you are videoing on or put it on a stand rather than holding it. If you need someone to hold it make sure it is still and you don’t cover the microphone holes.
  • Send the film to and at the start of the email say the name of the performer, that the video is for the finale and which part has been played.
  • Your video might be too large to send by normal email. If this is the case we recommend that you transfer the file by ‘we transfer’ which you can access from
