Students who attend one of Dudley's schools or live the area can register for a short series of online group lessons for £20. This is a one off trial and will take place after the spring half term 2021.

Information about how to apply is below, but please take a minute to check the information about the lessons before registering.   If you are looking for individual tuition please visit DPA Direct Individual

There is a one off charge of £20 to be part of the scheme.  For this you will be invited to a series of 4 lessons delivered by a teacher from Dudley Performing Arts.

Two or three students will be in the lesson that will last for 20 minutes and will take place on either Microsoft Teams or Zoom.*

Students will be grouped with others who are of a similar standard (e.g. beginners with beginners) and from the same school if possible.

Lessons will take place Monday to Thursday after school. After you have registered we will contact you to find a time that works.

For this trial, lessons are available on the following instruments:

Cornet (or trumpet)
Drum Kit
Flute
Guitar
Violin
Voice (singing)

Instruments can be provided at no cost for cornet, flute or violin lessons.  Guitar and drum kit students will need their own instrument.  If you register for cornet, flute or violin lessons we will get in touch with you about instruments and make arrangements for collection.

Please enrol before 09:00 on Monday 22nd February. After enrolling you will receive further information from Dudley Performing Arts.

* If the group has four students the lesson length will increase to 25 minutes and if we are unable to form a group you will receive an individual lesson for 15 minutes.

After you have enrolled and online safety

We will be in touch by email after you have enrolled. This will be an opportunity for you to provide information about the student and discuss when the lessons take place.

You will then be contacted by one of our teachers from a secure work email ending in either @dudley.gov.uk or @dpa.dgfl.org to finalise arrangements. These are the only two email addresses we will use regarding online lessons.

Note: Contact about these lessons must be between our teacher and a parent or responsible adult. Our staff will not correspond with children’s email addresses.

During the lessons the teacher will be at home, dressed professionally and will conduct the lesson as if they were in the same room at school. We need you to ensure that the lesson in your home takes place in a suitable room, that children are dressed appropriately and ensure that siblings or others do not wander into view.

We are happy for parents to be in the room during the lesson but they must not at any time appear on the screen. The only person who should be visible is the student who will be able to see the teacher and other students. If you need to help a child at some stage (e.g. to help tune an instrument) please make sure that you are not in the camera shot.

The session must not be recorded or shared by either teacher, parent or student.

The session will end if our teacher feels that any of the above is not in place or if they feel that anything is not as it should be. If this happens they will email you and the Head of Dudley Performing Arts.

Fees and terms of agreement

The spirit of this arrangement is to make music lessons available to as many students as possible. It is not possible for all children to have music lessons in schools at the moment and DPA Direct is intended to allow as many as possible to access tuition. This group teaching offer is a trial and if successful may be offered in the summer term although various aspects may be altered.

A fee of £20 is payable in advance as you enrol for which you will receive four lessons.

We will discuss options with you after enrolment has taken place to find the best solution for when lessons will take place. Lessons will be after school into the early evening Monday to Thursday.

A group with two or three students will receive a 20 minute lesson and if we extend the lesson to a group of four students a 25 minute lesson will take place. If we are not able to place a student in a group we will provide an individual lesson for 15 minutes.

In the event that DPA are not able to deliver all lessons you will be entitled to a refund for the missed lesson (£5) or to be credited for future DPA services.

Refunds are not applicable where lessons are missed through no fault of DPA or should a student not wish to continue part way through.

Whilst we hope that all students will continue with DPA, after this course of lessons neither the school, DPA or parent is contractually obliged to continue.

DPA will provide at no extra cost the following instruments if required: (subject to availability)

  • Flute
  • Trumpet/Cornet
  • Violin

Instruments are loaned free of charge and are to be returned immediately should tuition stop. Parents will be required to sign a guardian agreement before any instruments can be handed over. After you have registered we will contact you to find out if one of these instruments is required.

Responsibility for DPA instruments currently loaned via schools agreements will transfer to families during this temporary arrangement. Whilst DPA are not making a charge for the loan parents are responsible for repairs caused by negligence and for replacing any loss.

By applying for lessons you are agreeing to these terms.
