A range of swimming lessons takes place during term-time in the safe environment of the 25 metre teaching pool. All instructors are fully qualified, experienced swimming teachers, who constantly encourage and help in the water to reassure all children and swimmers.
Children can start lessons when they are 4 years old, progressing from total beginner stage through to Stage 7 of the ASA Learn to Swim Framework (Special Parent and Toddler sessions are held for parents and toddlers from 6 months to 4 years old).
A range of badges are used which test both skills and stamina of the child. The implementation of the ASA National teaching Plan ensures that each child progresses through the correct skill and stoke development. All badges can be purchased from Reception on production of a pass from the child's swimming teacher.
Some pupils have progressed to represent local Swimming Clubs in particular the Stourbridge Swimming Club which meets at the centre on a regular basis to train. Several have further developed to county level and achieved National medals.
Due to the popularity and the success of the Swimming Lesson Programme at the Crystal Leisure Centre, a waiting list is often in operation for lessons.
Places are currently available for the Parent & Toddler courses
These lessons are suitable for children aged between 6 months and 4 years. The sessions are held in a pool with warm water, and provides a safe, quiet environment with fully qualified instructors. They are an ideal initiation into the water. The casual turn up and pay sessions held in the 25m pool take place on Mondays between 3.15pm and 3.45pm (term time only)
There is no need to enrol on the Monday session, just turn up and try. If your baby likes it then you can enrol on one of the courses.
The centre also offers swimming lessons through the Kellogs ASA scheme for children with disabilities.
For more information on the disability swimming scheme, please contact the leisure centre.
Full details of the opening times of the pools at Crystal Leisure Centre can be found on the Leisure Pool and 25m Pool webpage.
