A designated section is available for Cremated Remains at the following cemeteries:
Cremated remains plots will be found on request at Dudley Cemetery. These plots are for the interment of up to four caskets of cremated remains.
For the safety of other visitors, please do not place anything breakable on the grave or in the pathway. Preferably nothing is to be placed in the pathway so that there is disabled access to graves and cemetery visitors are less likely to trip over items. However, if you insist on placing some items in front of your grave i.e. 3 x 2 slab, do not come out any further 6 inches (15cm).
Each grave is prepared with clean artificial grass mats for the graveside service. The grave is dug to accommodate usually a cremated remains casket. If this were a re-opened grave then the memorial would have been removed. For new graves there will be a temporary plot marker made so that it will identify that grave after the burial until a permanent memorial is placed on the grave.
You will meet either at the cemetery office or the graveside, depending on what you have arranged. A cemetery official will attend to liaise with the family, minister, and funeral director as applicable. Usually the cemetery official will already have the cremated remains but in instances where this is not the case he/she will check that the funeral director has the correct remains. When everyone is present and group will walk to the graveside. The family will be offered the option on whether a family member wishes to carry the remains.
At the graveside if a minister is present he/she will indicate when the remains are to be placed in the grave. The family will be given the option to carry this out themselves. The family may place flowers on top of the casket.
Normally once the family have the left the graveside the cemetery staff will back fill the grave and place a 3 x 2 slab over the top of the grave with the plot marker if applicable. Any floral tributes will be placed onto of this slab. If you wish to witness this final act then inform the cemetery official who will arrange this.
