As a business you may require a licence, permit, notification or registration for certain activities. Our website has help and advice for applicants for licences in the borough, including alcohol and entertainment licences under the Licensing Act 2003 and to help guide you through the licensing requirements of your business.

The council is responsible for issuing a wide range of licences to businesses. On this website you can apply and pay for licences online (where applicable) or alternatively download the application forms to complete and send in to us.

Do you need a Licence?

Whether you own a pub or food outlet, are a street trader, own an exotic animal or drive a private hire vehicle, you may need a licence or form of consent from the Council.

Licensing Committee Hearing Procedures

The prime purpose of the Committee is to exercise all the Council’s functions under the Licensing Act 2003 and review strategy and licensing policy and make appropriate recommendations to Council.

Disclosure Forms

If you have been awaiting a copy of your Disclosure Form from the Criminal Records Bureau for five weeks or more you should contact the Criminal Records Bureau on 0870 90 90 844

Complaints

If you would like to make a comments or complaint regarding a licence holder, then please send us the details. Our contact details can be found on the specific licensing pages that relate to the nature of your complaint. All complaints are treated seriously and will be responded to.

If you feel we have failed to provide you with good service or are concerned about the progress of your application, please contact us and we will endeavour to resolve any concerns you may have. If you remain unsatisfied then we have a formal complaints procedure.

Licences from Other Organisations

Submission of CRB Reports in relation to current Drivers

Please note that the Taxis Committee, in consultation with the Taxi Focus Group, agreed at their meeing on 20th October 2010 changes in relation to the submission of CRB reports by current drivers to be implemented 1st December 2010. The full document is available at the bottom of this page.

Discrepancies in spelling of names on passports, drivers licences and application forms will delay the application process. You should ensure that your passport / drivers licence / application forms all show correctly spelt names.

Enforcement

Enforcement action that the Council undertakes will be in accordance with current and relevant legal and professional procedural guidance, and will be enforced fairly, transparently, consistently and uniformly.

The council aims to promote efficient and effective approaches to regulatory inspection and enforcement, which improves outcomes without imposing unnecessary burdens.

Appealing against a Notice
