Parking Standards Supplementary Planning Document Review 2012

The Parking Standards SPD was adopted on 20th June 2012

A partial review is now being undertaken with consultation anticipated in Summer 2016.


This SPD is based on local circumstances and sets out a policy approach that moves away from the residential minimum standards approach of previous policy documents. The SPD aims to ensure that parking provision in new development is designed to meet expected demand whilst making the most efficient use of land and maintaining the principles of sustainable development.
Surveys were carried out to help provide a more accurate picture of the existing situation. In addition two periods of consultation were undertaken on the draft SPD in the Autumn of 2010 and in January – February 2012. The results of the surveys were compiled in a report produced by Phil Jones Associates to provide evidence for the SPD, which is available to download below.

  • Residential Parking Research - January 2011 [pdf / 1.51MB] In 2010, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council commissioned Phil Jones Associates to analyse the local relationships between dwelling type, size, tenure, location and car ownership to assist the local authority in the production of revised residential parking standards for the Borough.
