Consumers

Consumer Advice is provided by our partner organisation, the Citizens Advice Consumer Service (CACS). They will record details of your complaint and provide advice on your consumer rights.

If you are a consumer and need some advice about goods or services you have bought you can visit the Citizens Advice Consumer Service website. The website also contains information to help you avoid problems in future.

Making a complaint

Should you need further guidance or assistance with your consumer issue, please complete the Citizens Advice Consumer Service online complaint form.  This form can be used for all consumer issues, whether it is about goods or services that you have purchased, concerns or complaints about the safety of products, the sale of illegal tobacco or concerns about the sale of items with age restrictions.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to speak to a Citizens Advice Consumer Service advisor over the telephone please call 03454 04 05 06.

If necessary, details of your complaint will be sent to us or the relevant Trading Standards department in order to ensure patterns of poor trading practices by particular businesses can be identified and, if necessary, further action taken.

Businesses

Dudley Trading Standards promotes fair trading practices in Dudley.

We have a statutory duty to enforce a wide range of consumer protection legislation and we also provide advice to local businesses to help them comply with consumer protection laws.

Trading Standards Officers ensure compliance with consumer protection legislation through a combination of inspecting premises, investigating complaints and carrying out proactive work, such as product safety surveys and test purchasing exercises of age-restricted goods.

Where necessary, trading standards may instigate legal proceedings against traders, for example on matters such as unsafe goods and when traders have deliberately misled consumers.

Fix-a-Home Approved Trader Scheme

Dudley Trading Standards in partnership with Age UK Dudley also operate a ‘Fix-a-Home’ Approved Trader Scheme to help Dudley residents choose a reliable trader to carry out maintenance work around their homes.
