Our aim is to acquire, preserve and make available for public research any and all material relating to the present Dudley Metropolitan Borough area. This includes both manuscripts, such as parish records, council minutes and files, title deeds and maps, and also printed material, in the form of books, pamphlets, posters and newspapers, and audio visual material. this material spans dates from the 12th century to the present day, covering the whole range of local history and local study topics.
 
All material is for reference use only and is available in our search room.The Borough Archivist would be pleased to hear from anyone who would be willing to donate or deposit material of historical interest.
 
 
As part of Black History Month, we are hosting a talk by David Watts.  The talk will be on George Cousins, a Black Baptist Minister, 1805-1881.  There will be an opportunity to view original records connected to George after the talk. 
Venue: Dudley Archives and Local History Service.
Time and Date: Monday 20th October 2008.  2-3.30pm

Friends of Dudley Archives and Local History Service (FDALHS)
FDALHS was formed in 2001 with the co-operation of Dudley Archives & Local History Service. Its aims and objectives include:
  • To promote and support the work of the Dudley Archives & Local History Service
  • To raise the profile of archives locally and encourage the use of them
  • To foster interest in archives and promote their preservation and deposit with the Archives & Local History Service or other appropriate repository
  • To encourage the development of the Archives & Local History Service
  • To raise funds for these purposes and to make special purchases for the benefit of Dudley Archives & Local History Service
  • To provide a forum for users of the Archives & Local History Service to communicate with each other and with the service
 
Meetings are held at the Archives premises in Mount Pleasant Street, Coseley on the first Thursday of each month at 7.30 p.m. (every month except January and August).  These meetings consist of talks on family and local history topics by visiting speakers.  You don't need to be a member of the Friends to come to the talks, although a small fee will be charged for non-members.

2nd October - Mary Queen of Scots - speaker: Keith Cheetham
6th November - The Black Country - speaker: Ron Moss
4th December - AGM followed by Charles Dickens and a twist - speaker: Keith Cheetham
