New archives centre update
Work on a new state of the art purpose built centre is expected to start in 2012. The building will be located next to the Black Country Living Museum – with which it has a natural association - and will form part of an exciting redevelopment project on Castle Hill.
Features will include:

solar panels that will generate electricity

improved conditions with temperature and humidity controls for records and much needed additional space

a new high-tech conservation facility to care for damaged documents and make them available to the public for research

improved public access to widen community participation

‘Changing Places’ toilets that will provide fully accessible toilets to people with disabilities and their carers, with adequate space and facilities suitable to individual needs

25 year expansion space

IT and public wi-fi facilities

a rare books library and research area
-
well-equipped search room
-
additional storage and sufficient car parking
Consultation
Thanks for taking part in the archives service consultation which ended in October. We had more than 320 responses and are now analysing the findings. Next year we will share with you the results.
