Working on Elections and Annual Canvass

We are always looking to recruit staff to assist with election duties.

Expression of interest

If you wish to be considered for a post either during an election or the annual canvas, please complete our expression of interest form.

You will need to download and complete the form, which you will then need to bring in to Electoral Services together with the required right to work identification (as proof that you are eligible to work in the UK).

Please note we will need to see your Original Documentation as copies are not acceptable. Please do not post your original documentation to us.

Working at elections

The posts available include:

  • Casual poll clerks
  • Casual count assistants
  • Casual presiding officers

Annual canvass

Every year between August and November, Councils throughout the country undertake their annual canvass. This work is vital to enable Electoral Registration Officers to update the Registers in time for meeting the statutory publication date of 1st December.

The annual canvass involves employing canvassers to go knocking doors within a defined area to obtain information required.
