Our Living well, feeling safe service works to support vulnerable and older people to stay safe, healthy, well and independent in their homes.

The service provides tailored information and advice, as well as a whole range of practical support services such as home assessment visits and our bespoke online service.

You might need some help or advice from Living well because you or a family member are:

  • recovering from an illness
  • returning home from a hospital stay
  • starting to struggle with managing at home
  • struggling with mobility
  • feeling vulnerable at home
  • looking for general advice with keeping healthy and well
  • feeling lonely and would like to get out more

Living well, feeling safe - online self-assessment tool

Developed in partnership with the Disability Living Foundation (DLF) the tool offers you the opportunity to carry out an online self-assessment, using a simple tick box method to understand your individual living circumstances at home. A unique, personalised report is then produced recommending support services and aids to help you, including information on where you can purchase suitable equipment online.  There is also lots of support and advice on daily activities such as getting in and out of the bath, climbing stairs, washing, dressing, cooking and much more.

The Living Well assessment

Please note that due to the current Covid-19 outbreak we have changed our approach to home visit assessments. If a home visit is felt to be essential we will proceed and social distancing guidelines will be strictly adhered to. Telephone home assessments are on offer as an alternative and information and guidance is always available, simply give us a call

Our home assessments are free, regardless of your circumstances.  One of our Living Well team will visit you in your home, or chat to you over the phone.

They will discuss:
• how you are managing at home
• areas you might be struggling with
• things that may be worrying you
• social life and general comfort

We will then review your needs, and provide you with tailored, individual information and practical support which may include.

Keep safe and well in winter

Living well feeling safe offers lots of support to people all year round. During the cold winter months there is extra support for people who may struggle to cope in the cold or with getting out - Keeping well in winter.

At Home

At Home is a regional collaboration of West Midlands councils. It aims to encourage people to think about how independent living equipment can help to support people as they get older so they can remain living independently in their own homes.

Our support can and does make a huge difference to many people’s lives, ensuring that they can continue to live independently and comfortably in their own homes and local communities. The service is led by Dudley Council and supported by local organisations, including West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service and local and national charities.
