Neurodiversity

The concept of neurodiversity recognises the range of differences in individual brain function and behavioural traits, regarded as part of normal variation in the human population.

Neurotypical

Neurotypical refers to individuals whose brain function and development align with what is considered the societal norm, or the majority of the population. It describes people who think, behave, and learn in ways that are generally expected within a given culture. This term is often used in contrast to "neurodivergent".

Neurodivergent

Neurodivergent refers to individuals whose neurological functioning and development differ from what is considered typical or "neurotypical". This encompasses a range of conditions where the brain processes, learns, and/or behaves in ways that are not considered the societal norm. It's not a diagnosis itself, but rather a description of a difference in how someone's brain works.

Many neurodivergent conditions, such as autism, exist on a spectrum, meaning the experience and expression of these conditions vary greatly from person to person.
