Our result

The CQC awarded Adult Social Care in Dudley a ‘Good’ rating following its inspection to the council on Wednesday 18 March 2026.

In its first full assessment under the CQC’s new national assurance framework, inspectors highlighted and praised Dudley’s ground‑breaking coproduction of its self‑assessment with local people who use the council’s adult social care services, enabling those who use services to be involved throughout the inspection process.

The inspection shows adult social care services in Dudley are performing to a good standard in many key areas, with committed staff, strong partnership working and a clear focus on prevention and independence.

Inspectors recognised a person‑centred approach, helping people understand their options and make informed choices about their care and support. Along with the services provided that support people’s independence and help them stay at home for longer.

Also noted was the proactive work to tackle inequalities and engage hard‑to‑reach communities, along with the strong joint working across health, voluntary and community organisations, as well as a committed, compassionate and skilled workforce.

The good news

  • You are likely to be treated as an individual. Staff focus on what matters to you, your strengths and your goals.

  • There’s plenty of support to stay independent. Dudley provides a range of prevention services which are focused on keeping people safe, well and independent at home for as long as possible.

  • If you’re a carer, you should get good advice and support. Carers in Dudley reported better‑than‑average satisfaction.

  • Staff know their job and genuinely care. The CQC found a committed, capable workforce who go the extra mile.

  • Services work well together. Health, social care, housing and community organisations are collaborating more than ever.

Where we are improving

  • We recognise areas we need to improve and are focused on improving waiting times for assessment or review, transitions between services and consistent safeguarding systems.
