We have a designated housing support PA, whose main role is to support you in preventing homelessness. Your PA can help you consider which housing option is best for you.

Your options include:

  • Staying Put Arrangements: If you are in foster care when you are 18 and wish to remain this can be an option up until you are 21 (or 25 if in full-time education). See the Staying Put Information sheet for more information)
  • Supported Lodgings: If Staying Put is not right for you but you would still prefer to live in a family setting, we have supported lodgings available with various hosts (some have children, some do not) and can see whether one of these would be a good match for you.
  • Shared Lives: If you have a disability or additional needs and require more supportive living then a shared lives arrangement might be a possible option for you. You will live with your current carers or other carers in a family home. This should be considered as an option before your 18th birthday with Dudley Council’s Adult Services who will undertake an assessment to decide if this is the best option for you.
  • Supported housing: Living with a small number of other young people in a supported housing scheme where support workers will help you to develop skills that will help you to live independently when you are ready.
  • Own tenancy: You will be supported to register for a council property. As a care leaver, you can expect to receive priority for council housing. To obtain your own council tenancy you are required to attend a pre-tenancy workshop and have a reference from your PA to prove you are ready and capable of living on your own. As part of your tenancy there are a number of Housing Support services that your PA can access for you, which can provide practical advice and visits to your home to support you with all the things required to successfully manage your home. We can also work with other social landlords and local private landlords to see if there are any suitable and affordable properties that you may like to live in.

We work with partners to make sure that you have all the support in place that you will need around accommodation and housing options. Please see the link to our resources and partner agencies directory.
