Supporting children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities to live independent and fulfilling lives.

dds logoDudley Disability Service is an all age disability service, providing joined-up support to people, from birth to old age. The aim of the service is to support children, young people and adults with special educational needs, learning or physical disabilities, or autism living in Dudley Borough, to achieve a full and happy life. A life in which they are independent, gain skills and knowledge and have a confident and sociable life.

A range of care and support services, as well as information and advice is on offer to enable people with special educational needs, autism and/or disabilities to live as independent and full lives as possible. The service works in partnership with each person it supports to ensure that it meets their needs, desires and aspirations. We want people to be supported in the way they want so they can achieve their own goals and the lifestyle they choose.

Learning Disability Week 2021

This year’s Learning Disability Week takes place from 14-20 June. To celebrate, we have created a programme of events to help you meet our team, learn more about the services available and connect with local support groups. Our events commence on 21 June. All event details are on our Learning Disability Week Events and Videos page, or you can download our event calendar.

The theme of this year’s Learning Disability Week is art and creativity. For many people with a learning disability and their families, art and crafts are a great form of self-expression and a way to stay connected.

We are running an art competition and asking for inspiring pictures to help us celebrate. Pictures will be placed in one of the following age categories:

  • 0-8
  • 9-13
  • 14-17
  • 18+

Please send entries to karen.sherridan@dudley.gov.uk by 5pm on the 24 June. A £10 voucher will be awarded to the best in each category.

For more resources, Mencap, a UK charity for people with a learning disability, have created an activity pack to help you get creative. They also have a range of #CreatewithMencap videos that you can watch and follow along with to make all sorts of crafty creations.

Dudley Disability Service aims to provide anyone with a disability, of any age, along with family members and carers, with seamless, consistent information, advice and support, from children’s and adult’s social care and special educational needs services.
