The provision of a seat as a memorial provides a tribute to a loved one which is also a benefit to the community in which they lived. Such a memorial will last for the 'life' of the seat. The location* and fixing of the seat are subject to the agreement of the Council and any future relocation, due to redevelopment needs, will be agreed with the applicant at that time. Unfortunately, the Council cannot take responsibility for malicious damage to seats or stolen seats, but fortunately this seldom occurs.
Cast bronze memorial plaques for securing to memorial seats are approximately 9" x 2" in size. As a guide, no one line can consist of more than 26 characters and spaces, comprising 3 lines per plaque. If the name of the deceased is to be in larger characters than the remainder, then the maximum number of lines or letters within each line may have to be reduced. If you require a plaque on an existing seat, you must find a seat without a plaque in a suitable place and state its location. Depending on its condition, the seat will be refurbished and moved to as near your preferred location as possible. Additional plaques can be added, to provide extended commemoration of your loved ones.
Memorial seats are subject to availability. The high quality hardwood seat is supplied with a bronze plaque and the right to affix a memorial for a 10-year lease period.
The right to affix a plaque on a memorial seat is for lease period of 10 years. The agreement may be renewed and a reminder will sent at the appropriate time. Additional plaques can be affixed for the residue of the lease period.
