Autism is a lifelong, developmental disability that affects a person's social interaction, behaviour, communication and how they experience the world around them.

Dudley Autism Partnership

The aim of the Dudley Autism Partnership is to raise the profile of adults with autism and Asperger syndrome and to ensure the delivery of better services to meet their needs.

The group also oversees the implementation of the Autism Strategy for the borough. The group is attended by representatives of Directorate of Adult, Community and Housing Services, Dudley Primary Care Trust, Children's Services, service users, carers and voluntary/independent sector.

Online awareness training

To help people learn more about autism the council has developed an online training programme. It is free and can be undertaken at any time.
The step-by-step guide explains what autism is and how it affects people’s behaviour and offers suggestions on how to deal with difficult situations.

There are two modules – About Autism and Helping People with Autism - each module takes about 30 minutes to complete.

Dudley Autism Strategy

The Dudley Autism Partnership Board had planned an event during Autism Awareness week 2020 to share information and promote the Dudley Autism Strategy, however due to the lockdown restrictions in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic this event had to be postponed .

In light of restrictions we are undertaking a range of engagement activity using virtual meetings online and engaging with different groups of people who have an interest or role in supporting the Autism Strategy. We are especially keen to hear people views in terms of the impact of Covid-19 for people with Autism as we move in to the recovery phase of the pandemic.

The current programme of engagement will be coordinated by Dudley Voices for Choice (DVC):

• Tuesday 11th August 10.30-11.30am -DVC
• Thursday 10th September 1pm-2pm - DVC

• Monday 9th November 1pm-2pm- DVC
• Tuesday 8th December 6pm-7pm-DVC
