Licensing authorities are required to prepare and publish a statement of the principles that it proposes to apply when exercising its functions under the Act.
Under the Gambling Act 2005 licensing authorities are required to prepare and publish a statement of the principles that it proposes to apply when exercising its functions under the Act. These aim to:-
- prevent gambling being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime
- ensure that gambling is carried out in a fair and open way
- protect children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling
The Statement of Principles is reviewed every three years. The revised statement is updated to reflect changes in the statutory guidance.
Before a revised policy can be published the Licensing Authority must consult with certain other organisations such as West Midlands Police, gambling businesses and other organisations or people affected by gambling activities, however we would be happy to hear from anyone with an interest in this policy and its revisions.
How can I make a comment?
The closing date for comments is Friday 18 October 2024. Any comments may be made in writing to the Licensing Office address below. Please mark your correspondence ‘response to Gambling Policy Consultation’.
The draft statement of principles is available to download at the foot of the page and can also be inspected at the Licensing Office at the address below.
When will the Revised Statement of Policy be available?
After the consultation period has closed all responses/comments will be considered by the Licensing & Safety Committee and then by full Council. The final draft policy will be considered by the full council in February 2025.
