Dudley's Local Offer

Dudley's Local Offer is a one stop resource of information and services available to children and young people (aged 0-25) with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND), their parents, carers and families.

Dudley’s Local offer has been re-developed to make it easier for young people, with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to access information and support services in the borough.

It is now part of the Dudley Community Information Directory.

SEND Strategy and Improvement Programme

In March 2019 the Dudley Area Send Strategy was launched which set out our high level aspirations for improving the SEND offer across the board.

In September 2021 the partnership launched the revised strategy Dudley Send Strategy. All different, all equal a strategy to SEND us forward.

Joint Local Area SEND Revisit 31 January - 3 February 2022

Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission have announced today (17 January) that they will be carrying out a re-visit to Dudley on 31 January 2022.

The purpose of the re-visit is to determine whether the local area has made sufficient progress in addressing the areas of significant weakness detailed in the written statement of action (WSOA) that was approved by the Department for Education in December 2019 following the borough's joint local area SEND inspection in May 2019.

The inspection team will be on site from Monday 31st January until either Wednesday 2nd or Thursday 3rd February.

During the re-visit, Ofsted and CQC inspectors will be keen to speak to as many children and young people and their parents and carers as possible, specifically about the weaknesses identified in the WSOA. These meetings will likely take place online.

How can local children, young people, parents and carers contribute their views during this local area re-visit?

There are several ways in which children, young people, parents and carers can engage with the re-visit process and contribute their views.

The inspectors will gather the contributions of parents and carers through an online survey and a range of other methods. (See the letter to parent and carers issued by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission)

  • Parents and carers can take part in an online surveyThe survey will open at 12 noon on Monday 24 January and close at 12 noon on Friday 28 January 2022.
  • Parents and carers can contact the Dudley Parent Carer Forum to find out more about about how they can contribute their views during the local area re-visit or
  • Parents can share their views by attending an online open meeting on Tuesday 1 February 2022 11am – 12pm (joining details are available on Dudley's Local Offer.

Further details on the inspection and draft timetable are available in the stakeholder briefing note

Joint Area SEND Inspection May 2019

In July 2019 Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission published their findings of their joint area SEND (special education needs and disabilities) inspection of services and provision that they carried out in May. The inspectors determined that a Written Statement of Action (WSoA) or action plan was  required. This was submitted to Ofsted in November and approved on 20 December 2019.

Managing the Improvement Programme

We have set up a brand new programme office to oversee and drive improvement.

The partnership who are made up of made up of the council, Dudley CCG, Dudley Parent Carer Forum –  NHS, health providers, schools, colleges, employers, parents & carers and children and young people have worked together to clearly articulate what as a system Dudley is doing to improve our processes, support and ultimately bring about better outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
