If you are not yet ready for an apprenticeship, there are a number of pre-apprenticeship, and traineeship courses that may support your preparation onto your desired course.

Traineeships are the perfect stepping stone before starting an apprenticeship or employment. Students will obtain the necessary experience, employability skills and attributes to progress.

Ranging from 9 weeks, suitable for anyone aged between 16-24, Traineeships are predominantly work experience focused with an opportunity for you to undertake Maths and English qualifications up to GCSE level where needed

A pre-apprenticeship, or traineeship, is a vocational training programme at Entry Level to Level 2 that you would do at with a training provider.

As part of your training you may learn:

  • Practical skills in English, maths and information and communication technology (ICT) – also called functional skills
  • The skills you need to live more independently, organise yourself and to work with other people
  • About subjects that will help you in your future. You can do new subjects as well as carrying on studying some of those they do now
  • Work experience in an industry you are interested in

What qualifications will I get?

Your training provider will help you to choose from a range of qualification at this level. Examples include:

  • Functional skills
  • National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at level 1/2
  • Entry Level BTEC Certificates, Awards and Diplomas and BTEC Level 1 Certificates, Awards and Diplomas
