We have a range of strategies that are designed to help us meet the housing need of the people of Dudley. These strategies are listed below along with a brief summary.
The borough’s Housing Strategy sets out our strategic aims and the key housing challenges for the future.
We are currently rewriting our Housing Strategy to ensure that our strategic aims and priorities are relevant and continue to address the borough’s key housing challenges. It is anticipated that this will be completed by the end of 2017.
The Homelessness Act 2002 imposes a duty on local housing authorities to formulate and publish a homelessness strategy based on the results of its homelessness review. The Borough’s Homelessness Review informs and influences our strategy and provides a valuable insight into the homelessness issues within the borough.
Our key objectives for 2017-2019 are:
To maintain low levels of homelessness within the Borough.
To minimise rough sleeping.
To maximise the provision of new affordable housing and make better use of existing housing stock.
This Housing Renewal Policy has been adopted by the council to implement the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Housing Assistance) (England and Wales) Order 2002. This gives councils wider powers to offer assistance.
