At a time of loss, flowers are a sensitive and expressive way of comforting the bereaved - and of paying ones last respects to loved ones.

A flower room is provided at both crematoriums. The crematorium staff manage the floral tributes and these procedures are displayed around the crematorium. This is to ensure that there are always some vases available to accept new floral tributes. The introduction of private containers or vases is not permitted.

The crematorium staff manage the floral tributes on Fridays. Older flowers will be relocated in nearby flower tubs for a further week depending on weather conditions.

At extremely busy times of the year e.g. Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Christmas, it is impossible to accommodate all flowers within the buildings and it is wise to consider tributes which will withstand outdoor temperatures e.g. Holly wreaths at Christmas and pot Chrysanthemums in the Spring.

Floral tributes on the wreath terrace

Floral tributes are left on the wreath terrace at Gornal Wood and Stourbridge Crematoria for a period of seven days commencing from the date of the funeral.

Please be aware that the floral tributes may be removed as early as 4pm on the seventh day by Bereavement Services staff. This is in preparation for funerals taking place the following day.

Families wishing to collect tributes before they are removed should inform the relevant crematorium office.

Floral tributes on the highway

Losing a loved one in a road traffic accident is a tragic experience. Placing roadside tributes at the site of the accident can often be a way of helping to cope with loss and bereavement.

The Council does not object to the creation of temporary tributes. However, we would request that such tributes do not obstruct the highway and are kept in a neat and tidy condition.

Unfortunately, once tributes have decayed, become unsightly or are felt to be a safety hazard, we have an obligation to remove them.
