  • Oil painting by J R Reid showing an old man sitting looking crestfallen. He has his hat is in his hands and his dog sits by his knee. A young woman stands behind the man, her handkerchief to her mouth looking towards a white horse that is being sold.

Collecting is one of the core areas of work in museums. New material is being added to the collections all the time, and we are always grateful for offers of new items. All potential acquisitions are carefully considered, to ensure they meet with the Collecting Policy. The Collecting Policy states what will and will not be accepted. This is a requirement for holding Accreditation, a professional standard set by Arts Council England. It is often with regret that we cannot accept all offered objects.

Procedure

Dudley's collections are made of three parts:

  • Glass

  • Fine Art

If you have an object which you think may be of interest, Please read the information regarding Object Donations.

Loans in

The Museums Service will consider accepting items on long-term loan. Loans are normally made for a fixed period up to a maximum of five years and can then be returned or re-negotiated once the initial loan period is over. A Loan Agreement Form will need to be completed.
