Create a design from small bits of glass and we'll fuse them in a kiln overnight
You'll start by creating a design using coloured frit (small pieces of glass), thin glass stringers and larger pieces of glass. Museum staff will provide glass in a variety of colours and shapes for you to arrange in your design. Using non-toxic glue, you'll secure your piece in place and then our professionals will heat the glass in the kiln over overnight. The glass will fuse together to make one piece.

In a hands on 'fun with fusing' adventure, you and your group will create colourful fused pieces into a sun-catcher or small wall hanging.
We invite your group of 6-10 adults (or children 12 years+) to participate in a hands-on activity. Following an introduction, participants will have sole use of our fusing studio in a session led by an experienced teacher.
Who is it for?
Fun with fusing is great for all types of groups, including Uniform Groups, family reunions, team building or hen parties.
How much does it cost?
Prices vary in activities chosen. Please contact us for details and availability.
We also have a spacious education room where your group can meet after the hands on activity to complete the experience. You are welcome to bring your own refreshments into the area or pre-book catering with our independent on site Red Cone Coffee House.
What do I wear?
We recommend you cover you feet (don't wear open toed sandals!) and tie long hair back. You will be given an apron to wear and goggles should you need them.
My child is not 7, but they're really good at art, can they participate?
No. The studio is small and participants do work with real, sometimes very small pieces of glass. From experience, some visitors were not always been truthful about the age of their child and children as young as 3 came to the class. The studio environment is simply not suitable for this age group.
Can I leave my child while I go for a coffee?
No. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult during all sessions.
Can I eat in the studio?
No. You will be handling small pieces of glass and we'd hate for you to eat some by mistake - just think about where it has to come out after being digested!!! You may bring in sealed water bottles or enclosed drink holders.
Why do you let school groups or Beavers or Rainbow groups do these sessions when they're not 7 years old yet?
These children are always supervised by an adult who they know. We also can guarantee the age of the child; we know that a Year 1 pupil is between 5-6 years old and they are used to being in a classroom and shown what to do.
