Our Tattoo & Piercing Hygiene Rating Scheme aims to raise hygiene standards in the Dudley Borough and help ensure members of the public are well informed when deciding which studio/business to use. A list of premises that have already been rated under the scheme can be found at the bottom of the page.
The scheme is a voluntary scheme and is open to all businesses in the Borough offering tattooing, semi-permanent skin colouring (including microblading) and cosmetic piercing.
Following an inspection your premises will be given a hygiene rating between 1 (major improvement required) and 5 (excellent) under the scheme. You will receive a certificate and window sticker to display on your premises and your rating will be featured on this website.
The scoring for the scheme is based on the CIEH (Chartered Institute of Environmental Health) toolkit for tattooing and piercing. The inspection will follow the format of the audit document located at the end of the toolkit. The toolkit is free to download:
