Be aware of scammers
We have become aware of fraudsters contacting residents to offer help in reclaiming council tax, housing rent or other payments paid by Direct Debit.
Please do not disclose your bank details to anyone.
The fraudsters in these cases will ask for them.
Once they have them, they will initiate direct debit indemnity claims for monies previously paid by direct debit on the resident’s behalf.
Upon payment of the claim fraudsters then quickly transfer the funds from the victim’s bank account, leaving them in many cases with large debts to repay.
