Dudley Healthy Settings Award

The Dudley Healthy Settings Award was launched March 2019 and replaces the Health and Wellbeing Audit Tool. It has been specifically designed to support Childcare Providers in recognising the work they do to ensure all provisions promote healthy behaviours and support all children to lead a healthy lifestyle, both now and in the future.

Achieving the Award demonstrates a commitment to health and wellbeing through a whole setting approach and gives you, your staff and families confidence that you are providing a healthy setting for all your children and young people.

Health and Wellbeing Context

Obesity - 24% of reception children were classified overweight or obese (2017/18)

Oral Health - 18.3% of 5 years olds has some form of tooth decay (2014/15)

The Award covers four important areas that contribute to health and wellbeing

  • Emotional health and wellbeing and relationships - Early Years*
  • Food and nutrition
  • Physical activity
  • Risk taking behaviour and health protection

* Criteria for ‘Emotional health and mental wellbeing’ and ‘Relationships’ have been combined for Early Years settings, as at this age there is considerable cross-over between the criteria.

There will be three award levels available:

  • Bronze – meet all the criteria in two of the four areas
  • Silver – meet all the criteria in three of the four areas
  • Gold – meet all the criteria in all of the four areas

The award is an online tool, with:

  • Application forms for each of the four areas
  • Supporting resources and guidance
  • Training Information
  • Regular news updates

What do settings receive?

Every setting that achieves the award will:

  • receive recognition on the award website and other council websites, alongside social media accounts
  • electronic award logo for use on their own website pages and other promotional materials
  • framed certificate

For each area, key criteria have been developed. Achieving these will ensure your setting provides an environment that is conducive to positive healthy behaviours. We recognise your setting will already be working towards a wide range of national requirements and/or guidelines in these areas so many of these are reflected in the Award criteria.  For further information please contact us.
