Our Building Control services are currently severely restricted

This means that the processing of applications, inspection visits and related paperwork is taking much longer than expected. We request that all communications, including requests for inspections, are emailed to building.control@dudley.gov.uk. In your email please include the application reference number, the site address, a phone number to contact you, and the reason for the site visit. Without this information, we won't be able to answer your questions or schedule an inspection.

For new Building Control applications, please email building.control@dudley.gov.uk. Alternatively you may use provision from an Approved Inspector. If you choose to apply through us, you are accepting that the regulation timelines for registering your application, scheduling inspections, and getting paperwork and certificates may not be achieved.

We're sorry for the inconvenience. We are working to fix these issues as quickly as we can

Planning restrictions - operating a business from your home

If you intend to work from home you will require planning permission to do so if the overall character of your house changes from the primary and predominant use as a dwelling house. Instances where this would occur include a use that attracts a marked rise in traffic or people calling, a use that involves activities unusual in a residential area or a use that could disturb your neighbours.

However, many businesses can exist invisibly within houses or in outbuildings in the garden without any formal change of use occurring in planning terms. More information on working from home is provided in the Department of Communities and Local Government booklet;
