Disposable nappies and hygiene products generate large amounts of waste. This page explains how to dispose of disposable nappies and hygiene waste safely.
Why switch to reusable nappies
- Disposable nappies contribute significantly to household rubbish.
- Reusable nappies can save money over time and reduce environmental impact.
- Modern reusable nappies are easy to use and care for.
Support
You can request additional refuse sacks to support nappy waste. If you meet our criteria, you will receive a roll of refuse sacks for each child in your household that is:
- aged under 30 months (2.5 years)
- aged over 30 months (2.5 years) with special educational needs and disabilities and/or a medical condition and uses nappies
If you have a child over 30 months (2.5 years) old and still using nappies please visit the advice on potty training.
Disposing of disposable nappies and hygiene waste
You should double‑bag disposable nappies, incontinence pads and sanitary products and place them in your general waste bin.
