Our Living well, feeling safe service works to support vulnerable and older people. It helps them to stay safe, healthy and independent in their homes.
The service is led by Dudley Council, supported by West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service and local and national charities.
Our support can and does make a huge difference to many people’s lives. We can help them continue to live independently and comfortably in their own homes and local communities.
We provide tailored information and advice, as well as a whole range of practical support services such as home assessment visits and our bespoke online service.
You might need some help or advice because you or a family member are:
- recovering from an illness
- returning home from a hospital stay
- starting to struggle with managing at home
- struggling with mobility and it is not what it was
- feeling vulnerable at home
- looking for general advice with keeping healthy and well
- feeling lonely and would like to get out more
Living well, feeling safe - online self-assessment tool
Developed in partnership with the Disability Living Foundation (DLF) the tool allows you to carry out an online self-assessment. It uses a simple tick box method to understand your individual living circumstances at home.
It produces a personalised report, recommending support services and aids to help you. It includes information on where you can find suitable equipment online.
There is also lots of support and advice on daily activities such as:
- getting in and out of the bath
- climbing stairs
- washing
- dressing
- cooking
The Living Well assessment
Our home assessments are free, regardless of your circumstances. One of our Living Well team will visit you in your home, or chat to you over the phone.
They will discuss with you:
- how you are managing at home
- areas you might be struggling with
- things that may be worrying you
- social life and general comfort
We will then review your needs, and provide you with tailored information and practical support which may include:
Home safety, security and improvements
Equipment and adaptations to your home to make sure you are safe, secure and well.

At Home
At Home is a collaboration of West Midlands councils. It aims to encourage people to think about how independent living equipment can help to support people as they get older so they can remain living independently in their own homes.
