When a child is new to care to Dudley a PEP is set up straight away as it is crucial to provide them with strong educational support to ensure they settle into their learning environment and can thrive academically. This initial PEP will normally take place within 10 working days of them being in care.
The Virtual School works in close collaboration with the child’s school or other educational settings. The Virtual School team and the social worker ensures that the school is aware of the child’s background, any trauma they may have experienced, and how best to support their emotional and academic development.
If a child needs a new school the Virtual School team helps ensure smooth transitions by preparing the child, providing continuity of learning, and offering transitional support that help the child feel comfortable in their new learning environment.
By offering comprehensive, personalised support, the Virtual School can ensure that children can overcome educational challenges, receive a stable and supportive learning experience, and reach their full potential academically and emotionally.
