A child or young person who is Previously Looked After is eligible for Pupil Premium Plus funding of £2570 (2024-2025). This funding is paid directly to the educational setting the child or young person attends and not the Virtual School.

The Department for Education (DfE) allocates the funding based on data submitted by the school in their school Census. Schools may require a copy of the Adoption, Special Guardianship, Residence or Child Arrangement Order or a letter from the Local Authority which made the Order.

The school manages the funding and decides how to spend it. The funding should be used to improve the educational attainment and progress of PLAC, and to narrow the gap between them and their peers.

PP+ Grant should be used to support pupils to reach their full potential, this could be done in number of ways:

  • Narrowing the attainment gap
  • Supporting academic progress and achievement
  • Addressing any identified learning needs
  • Providing direct educational interventions

See the gov.uk website page for more information, Pupil premium overview - (gov.uk)

You can find out more about using PP+ here, Pupil Premium Plus guidance for school leaders (gov.uk)

Further guidance can be found in the Designated Teacher for looked-after and previously looked after children statutory guidance (February 2018) (GOV.UK)

There is PP+ funding for Previously looked after children attending nursery from the term after their 3rd Birthday. In the year 2024-25, an early year’s provider could receive up to £388 per year to support the child’s education. This is payable to the setting once an application is made to the Local authority by the parents/guardians. More details on how to apply if the child attends a Dudley setting can be accessed on the Dudley Council Web Site.
